  Our Teachers    

  • Ms. Borden is a specialist in music for young children starting her 43rd year of teaching. 

  • She has a degree in music education (all levels) from the University of Texas-Austin. 

  • She has a Kindergarten endorsement from Texas A&M CC, Level I & II Orff certification from Texas A&M Kingsville, Level III Orff certification from Colorado State in Fort Collins, Level I Kodaly Training from Texas State University in San Marcos and Six Levels of Musikgarten certification from TCU, Ft. Worth, Texas, Park Cities Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas and teacher trainer Lelani Miranda, Houston, Texas. Ms. Borden is an accomplished teacher, vocalist and recorder player. 

  • Nan directs the Cherub Choir at the Corpus Christi Cathedral and is an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

  Kate Burrill                                          

Mrs. Burrill has been a dance performer, teacher, and choreographer for over eighteen years mentoring students from child to adult.  Her formative credentials include a Bachelors Degree in Dance Education from the University of the Arts in Pennsylvania and a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Development from Trident University in California.  Kate has traveled the world teaching dance and choreography - working with entire spectrum to include public, nonprofit, and private arts enterprises.  

 

Organizations to include University of Idaho, the Alaska Dance Theatre, Anchorage Symphony Orchestra to instructing for local high schools and Montessori programs.  Kate moved to Texas and joined the Ballet Academy family in 2004, where she taught and performed with the company for such pieces as Bailando, Gaite Parisian, Alice in Wonderland, and The Nutcracker.  Kate earned her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and has continued exploring and practicing her greatest passion, for teaching dance to very young children.  Kate joins us most recently from Germany - where she taught dance in the local communities as well as for the children and adults overseas serving in the U.S. military.

Kate is the proud wife of an active duty Air Force pilot, and blessed mother to five rambunctious children.

 Margaret Naismith Jonker                  

Margaret Naismith Jonker has a love for music and children.  She has taught preschool music at First Presbyterian Preschool and all levels through 5th grade at First Baptist School for a combined 6 years.  She has taught Musikgarten since 1999.  Ms. Jonker has also taught private piano for 23 years. She is a member of CCMTA, TMTA, and MTNA.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts, Summa Cum Laude, from Lubbock Christian University as well as the Dean's Award. 

Ms. Jonker enjoys playing the piano, composing, and sharing her love of music.

    • This one week camp offers classes in composition, music and art facts, art, choir, dance and drama.  Special presentations are given, relating to the topic studied.  Each year the Camp ends with a performance of an original play, telling the life story of the composer and artist studied.

  • Beverly Naismith has written 19 plays for the Camp programs.  

 

  Nancy Sulik                                         

Mrs. Sulik began her dance training in Alabama and Mississippi. She received a BA Degree in Dance and French from Mississippi State College for Women. She was a member of the MSCW Performing Ensemble which toured the South to create interest in the performing arts on university levels. Upon graduation she performed with the Houston Youth Symphony Ballet and studied Ballet and Modern Dance in Europe. 

She was a staff member at Del Mar College teaching Ballet and taught French at Incarnate Word Academy for many years. Her interest in dance-in-education fostered the growth of Educational Ballet Matinees, Student Performing Arts Series, Artists-In-Dance Residencies, and a yearly performance season with guest artists, master teachers, and choreographers. She is the coordinator of the Encore Program which provides student participation in the arts in the CCISD and other area schools. She is one of the organizers of the Student Performing Arts Series, inaugurated in 1988. SPAS brings classical ballet, symphonic music, and professional theatre to many students during the public school year. 

As the director of Ballet Academy, official school of Concert Ballet, she has developed the Early Childhood Music and Movement dance program for children 3-7 years old based on techniques to develop academic skills and increase creative potentials in young children promoting the development of the total child. For the past four years to the present, she serves as the Fine Arts Coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers with CCISD – providing degreed teachers in music, violin, dance, and theatre arts in 8 middle schools and 6 elementary schools.  

  Joyce Wilcox                                        

Joyce Wilcox has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano and Education from Austin College in Sherman, Texas,  and a Masters in Church Music degree from Concordia University Wisconsin.  She has served as a church musician for over 50 years and has taught piano for over 40 years.  She also teaches organ and music theory.  She is one of the founders of Montessori School of Corpus Christi and of Coastal Bend School for the Arts where she now teaches.  She also serves as Director of Music, Director of Handbells and Organist at Parkway Presbyterian Church.
